It’s a license issued by the Maryland State Police (MSP) that allows qualified individuals to carry a handgun concealed or open in public.
You must:
Be at least 21 years old
Pass a criminal background check
Complete at least 16 hours of firearms training
Demonstrate a good and substantial reason (e.g., self-defense, job-related need)

16 hours of training for new applicants

Yes. Permits are valid for 2 years after the initial issuance, then must be renewed every 3 years. Renewal requires updated training and requalification.
